OMG! Tsunami at my house
Well there I was minding my own business, taking a break outside sitting next to my pond enjoying a cup of coffee, when all the sudden I hear this awful creaking sound coming from my pond. I did not even have a chance to get up when crash one of the walls gave out
The force of 3000 gallons of water actually knocked me back to where I hit the wall of my house! Ouch! Then I see all my fish being swept away UNDER my fence to the front yard, the force of water actually dug holes under the fence So now I had fish flopping in the front and back yard!Thank god for kids who started helping me grab them all and put them in coolers! I call my WONDERFUL carpenter who is my husband and does this for a living and asks him if maybe he wants to re think the suggestion that I had to put the 4x4's every 12 inches instead of every 24! I a little loudly explain to him what had just happened and he needs to come home now and FIX it! He calmly asks me are you ok, I state yes, he then calmly asks are the fish ok, I state I think I got them all who knows. Then there is silence.........then laughing I ask whats so funny! He states what I would have given to be there to see that all happen Moral to this story!! Make sure when you build something it will hold the weight of whatever you put in it! He also did this with Grizzlys cage, he forgot to brace the back, then put up tile, I tried to tell him it wont hold the weight of the tile, then the next day POOF It all falls off the back and he DID have to brace it, hey but what do I know I am not the carpenter, lol. What a week MERCY I give! |

Re: OMG! Tsunami at my house
Water is a very heavy substance it weighs 8.34 lbs per gal. Even some of the aquarium stands you see at pet stores are pretty iffy. Glad you were able to save the inhabitants. Maybe you should have Rich come and build you a new one.lol

Maybe I should have Rich build it, lol. Right now I pulled Two of my very best carpenters off a job site to fix it, which basically means that it is being rebuilt as we speak, and yes they are using more bracing on all sides, imagine that.............They are also being paid overtime to do it, so maybe nexyt time he will think twice when doing something at our house. You know the funny thing is that if I was a customer this never would have happened, it would have been built to stand through the end of the world, lol. Here he sometimes just gets in a hurry. Hopefully he stop and think with the next one, or maybe I will just have these two build that one I do sort of feel sorry for him as his crew will NEVER let him live this down, ever! ![]() |

Re: OMG! Tsunami at my house
That sounds like a funny scene to have watched, but I bet the cleanup is killing you! I'm sorry about that.
I think people get a little... er... overconfident in their abilities, and forget to take into account important factors - like the weight of water. At least you didn't pay him.
