Legless lizards
I was at a herp expo in Toronto yesterday and saw my first Legless lizards. Never seen them before. These were wildcaught. Did you know they eat anything. That's right anything
At least that's what the vendor was telling people. Anything from crickets to mice to canned dog food whatever he said. Everything these guys had was wildcaught and cheap cheap prices. They looked like they had just gotten back from catching everything themselves. Had some real cheap enclosures as well. Had some kind of Chinese logo on the side. At first glance they looked like a real steal. Except when you play with the lid you might notice it doesn't close properly.I looked for a business card but unfortunately they were not stupid enough to put those out. I guess so they wouldn't get nasty phonecalls later. These guys are bad for the herp industry.

Re: Legless lizards
Did they have a banner or company name? Most vendors, at least here in the U.S, hang signs so people know who they are. I would be leary of buying anything from anyone who isn't advertising themself. That alone would lead me to believe they have something to hide.
Seeing as there are no pictures in this post, is it safe to assume you didn't take any? |

Re: Legless lizards
Tsk Tsk,,No pics **shakes finger*.
Most of our vendors also have to have a register with a TX ID number as well. Are they listed on the website for vendors at the show?

Re: Legless lizards
Since you want pictures.... these are from a Anguis fragilis, a legless lizard we have in Portugal.
A small creature (8 inches) that eats earthworms, small frogs and small lizards (skinks ?). ![]() ![]() Looks like the ones you saw, Kriminaal ?

Re: Legless lizards
Man the sarcasm is getting as thick as the air today
I stopped taking my camera because it's so busy you can barely look at a table without looking over someones shoulder. I'm going to check into the table arrangements on the site to try and find out who they are. No banners or names anywhere on their tables. Trust me I was looking hard.

Re: Legless lizards
Found out their name -Reptile Amazone they are from Montreal. Maybe I'll pm Meki and see if he's heard of them.
The Legless I saw were much bigger about 2 ft and thick. The head was simliar to a Plated or Sudan.

Re: Legless lizards
Yeah. Not much of a website. Maybe they prefer to deal with stores and not individuals.

Re: Legless lizards
Ack! My eyes! Their Website!
![]() On the other hand, they might rely for the most part on word of mouth and one-on-one contact with stores or people. If they don't have much of a store or website, it probably means people contact them or they contact people directly.

Re: Legless lizards
That description sounds like a European legless lizard (aka scheltopusik), Ophisaurus apodus. They're almost always wild-caught, but usually adapt well to captivity. It's a shame they're not bred more often, they're an amazing species.
