"Tern" of Events
I just got back to my shop this morning and saw a couple adult Terns wandering around with some chicks, making all kinds of a fuss. I thought "Man those chicks are cute", so I walked across the street to get a better look. The little suckers can move. Well they all wandered off, but I still kept hearing the "peeps". Then I remembered that when I first got out of the jeep, one of the adults had been next to a storm drain, looking down at it. Sure enough, when I walked over and looked down in the drain, there was one of the chicks. I was able to lift the grate off and pick the chick up. It was all frazzled, but quickly gathered its whits and headed for one of the adults.
Something just made me curious while I was writing this and I went outside and found another one in the drain. This time I covered it.

Kudos to you Craig! Just about a week ago I walked down to pick up my daughter at the bus stop and I was hearing something from the drain so I stopped to investigate. I knelt down and tried hard to locate the source of the sound, but the moment I started peering in, the sound stopped. I was unable to see the animal, and since it had stopped making any noise, I was unable to locate its position. Unfortunantly, without knowing for sure what it was that was down there, I had no choice but to continue on to the bus stop. I hope I was just hearing an echo however.

Good for you! So many would have simply shrugged their shoulders and gone on!
If they had stopped to look at all!
