Article: Bill would make reptile owners... (FL)
Bill would make reptile owners cough up $100
"Legislation is slithering its way through the state Capitol to have owners of certain non-native, non-venomous snakes and lizards register their pets beginning next year. The exotic reptile owners will have to shed $100 for each snake and lizard that makes the list, but they said they won't shed any skin about it. "

Ok I know there are many people on here who wont agree with my opinion and I am not meaning to offend anyone but I am all for that being passed!! I hope that will deter some of the not so serious reptile owners. I did notice that they were not adding iguanas to the list only the monitors. I hope some day that they will. I also have the opinion that it needs to be nation wide!
The harder you make it to get them the chances are you will weed out the majority of the not so serious people who do buy them and a year or two later dont know what to do with them, and dump them. I would definately love to see that pass nationwide with the iguana added to the list! |

Iguanas are not native so that would mean those animals get cut down as well, so that's a plus.
I'm with Nicole on this however, $100 for every species, I find that to be a bit rediculous. Most people who are buying a "cheap pet" wouldn't pay the $100 to begin with so I would think a 100 charge for the permit would be where it's at. It's still affordable to many of us who actually care and will help deter most "Cheap petters". $100 is a lot when you have 10 plus animals.. If this bill was passed in Oklahoma, I'd be completely screwed and my place isn't small nor a secret so I couldn't hide it. EDIT: That's if they include crocodilians as lizards and how they are deciding what "native" is.. Local to the state, yeah, I'm screwed, and hopefully turtles won't be put on this list as well..

Well Zane if this happens and they do put iguanas on the list and go nationwide you and I could go in on a joint low interest loan together
Although I agree with the proposal that is a scary thought, ![]() |
