I think I've read this article before - it's a good piece. Thanks for sharing.

VERY timely, THANKS!!

This article couldn't have come at a better time, since I've just found my new BP is infected with mites... poor baby!
I think I've been taking most of the right steps: have cleaned and frozen everything small enough to fit in the fridge; got (hopefully) all of the mites off of Monty with several baths, including one with betadine; and I'll be changing him from plastic sweater box to plastic sweater box every day for the next 4 weeks or so to break the mite life cycle. I've cleaned out his terrarium with bleach and water, and will treat it with one of the anti-mite insecticides when I can get to the store.
These predatory mites sound interesting though: (Hypoaspis miles). I'm thinking of getting them and putting them in Talyn's (my other snake) terrarium. I don't think she's been infested, but I can't be 100% sure as of yet. These little buggers seem like they would live happily eating eggs, larvae, etc. of the reptile mites... they even eat them right off the snake!
Although I'm a bit wary of infesting my place with bugs to take care of a bug infestation, it seems like the most natural and safe way to launch a counter-attack.
Anybody tried these yet??

I have never heard of anyone cleaning mites off fixtures by freezing them. In the article it states that it requires temps of -20C which would be -4F for a week. I would not think that any normal household freezer would achieve those temps.

cold freezer

Our freezer always has temps at -20C or colder... so I hope it works.
Although I read another article that said anything below 5C for over 2 weeks would work too.
I soaked everything thoroughly and washed it all in bleach first, so hopefully that'll help too!
I'm going to try the reptile relief too, if I can get it over here.
