PayPal Warning

I know there are some of you that arent really tech savy. No offense lol. On with the story...

I checked my email this morning and got an email from paypal saying I bought something from amazon I wasnt home at all yesterday so I couldnt have. Well there was a dispute charge link at the bottom. I was ****ed so I clicked it, upon going to the site, I noticed the address wasnt http://paypal.com like normal. it was 123.456.789.012/blah blah blah bal. com.....So I closed it and knew it was a scammer. Called paypal told them and then they told me to send them the email. ALl taken care of..

Moral is allways mouse over the links in a paypal email to see where it gose. If not to paypal.com dont go to it and foward the email to spoof@paypal.com. Aslo if the email says dear paypal customer its fake too. They will use your ful name.

Hope this helps some of you out or gives you pointers what to stay away from.

The other thing I recommend in situations like this, if you think there is some chance it could be legit and you want to check on it, is NOT to use the link sent in the email at all. Instead, open up a browser window and type in the website manually, then check on your account.

Thanks Amy, I forgot to add that part. I did just that too. Sent it off to paypal and got an email from them. I figured it was best to warn people due to the fact that some just dont look you know you get in the swing of things and pay no attention

I have gotten about 10 of those things since I started my paypal account, they word them in many different ways, bottom line is do not log into the link they are giving you, tis how they find out your password etc. If it does not have your name and has dear customer or your e mail address it is fake.

Ahhh another victim of that stupid scam. I've gotten them before and handled it accordingly...My boyfriend got one last week and just about had a coronary because he thought someone got ahold of his credit card number *AGAIN* I was able to point out the ways that it was a scam to him though, so all was well and he didn't end up being charged for a $400 video camera.

The scammers are very creative. I get things from Paypal, various and sundry alleged banks and credit card companies that I don't even have accounts with. Most of them are to the effect that there is a disputed charge or something is wrong with your account and it is going to be suspended, closed or whatever. Don't buy it! Most legitimate companies will NOT ask you for your personal information in an email. If in doubt,... get on phone!
