Herp Birthday Ideas?

Henry will be 8 at the end of March, and he has announced that he wants a "herp birthday party." I'm all for it, and I have found some lizard/frog party goods. I am looking into the possibility of having a reptile show organization come and do a party presentation with hands-on reptile learning and fun. It's expensive, but if they can bring animals different from those we already have, it might be worth it.

I wondered if any of youse guys might have other ideas for "herpy" birthday decor, games, activities, etc.

Thanks!

i'm not sure if they still make them... but when I was a kid we had plastic frogs with folded balloon leg things attached to a hose and a hand pump. when you pumped it the legs straightened out and the frogs would jump! surprisingly far at that... i thought they were the coolest thing ever. who am I kidding... i STILL think they're the coolest thing ever!!!

i can try to track down what they were called if you like, i would think they still make them.

When my son was young, he desperately wanted a Pokemon party (he'd kill me if he knew I admitted this, lol). I created bingo cards, and devised a scavenger hunt (my folks have 40 acres), and of course gift bags.

You could easily create herp bingo and herp-related gift bags.

I LOVE Merlin's idea of pin the tail on the iguana... especially since that's just what we want to do when they lose it!!

Amy, If I lived closer, I would pack up and come down for ya, but its quite a hike to Virginia. Yea those "professionals" are quite expensive, up to $350 for an hour....Check out the dollar store (do you have a dollar store??) I always find bags of rubber lizards and such or contact me and I can pick up some here and ship em to you. Not sure if all the Walmarts sell these, but for about a dollar, they have those wooden snakes that you have to hold at a certain angle and it looks like they move...they are sectioned and made of a light wood material. I have a bunch of live snakes and my kids still love these lol....or get some white Tshirts (at an outlet or something ) and have a lizard drawing contest on the Tshirt....just some thoughts

Thanks for the ideas, guys. I think we'll do pin the tail on the leo, and I ordered about 100 plastic snakes that they will go hunting for outside. I did go ahead and book a "show" from these folks: reptilesquad.com They're affiliated with the MARS rescue in Maryland. Henry is excited, even though he knows that this party IS his present from his dad and me!

Check out Oriental Trading Company for plastic frogs, snakes etc..Party supplies, crafts, party decorations, toys: Oriental Trading What age party are we planning (sorry I can't remember)? You could go to walmart and get some herp material (3.00-4.00 yard) and make tote bags. Let me know the age this sounds like fun....

LOL, I just placed an order with Oriental Trading this morning, Colleen! Henry's turning 8.

The tote bags sound neat, but I don't sew much. (The slug costume I made was constructed from duct tape, remember!)
