I think that it is much easier to care for a snake then a lizard. Sometimes depending on the lizard or snake. I personally can't decifer which I like better. I own 8 snakes and 5 lizards. Lizards to me have more of a personality. Snakes are just so awesome and are weird to me in a sense and I think that's why I like them.

Alright now we're getting some better answers. I understand though when some of you said you're not sure what it is but you're drawn to them. I was just giving you a hard time.
I find it is that way with all reptiles. They are addicting. I always found chameleons kind of a freakish creature. Until my wife brought one home. Then I found them extremely fascinating, and ended up buying a mate for him.
I also know of parents that cringed when I helped their son/daughter pick out a herp. But it didn't take long until they loved them almost as much.
We love what we love.

i never used to like snakes to the degree that I do now...that is until I worked in a pet store. they were always cool to look at and see but I was always iffy on them. but after being in the pet store environment I took notice of a little rosy boa that later on in life became Chaos. he fascinated me for some unknown reason and when I got up enough guts to take him out and hold him it was like boom! instant attraction. it was so cool to have the experience to hold one and have it move through your hands, i had never held or been that close to a snake or any reptile before that. afterwards I started figuring out where I could put one at home and finding out requirements...though sadly mom and dad weren't fans of snakes or other reptiles so at that point it wasn't meant to be, but a friend of mine had taken the rosy boa I had named Chaos home so I could still visit him. a few years later while still in the pet shop in came the tiny pink and white string with eyes which I currently call Blizzard. he was one of the cutest things I had ever seen and I was hoping that this would be my very first chance for a reptile of my own. yea it was nice to take care of all the herps at the store but I wanted something I could really call mine. at the time my uncle was visiting us and he heard me going on about a snake. he thought it would be a good idea and together we got my parents to agree. so came my first herp, my snow corn Blizzard. i enjoy taking care of him and having him out with me. he's grown into quite the handsome boy and it was really cool to see his colors change over the years from pink and white to peachy pink, white and a yellowy orange. i love how he will curl up in a towel and sit in my lap for hours...and hours. i watch tv like that sometimes and I find it hilarious to look down and see his head poking out from under the towel. the rosy boa that I had originally wanted eventually became my second snake and I love to have him sit around my neck and just hang out for hours. i love how I can walk around with him and he'll stay there. i can sit outside with him or take him to work and get work done and he just stays curled up there. my third snake is my Anery corn Bullet and I love him just as much as my other two. again i've loved seeing his colors change from black and grey to brownish black, grey and yellow. its a really amazing thing to see. and like my others I love having him out, he enjoys cruising along my floor or wrapping around my arms. having snakes is like a whole world I never thought i'd be part of but i'm so happy that I am.

For myself I was ALWAYS attracted to snakes, much to my poor mother's dismay.

I loved the appearance, the way they moved and the way it felt as they moved in my hands. I found it almost hypnotic to watch them. And not to mention that, as a city kid, I was actually able to interact peacefully with a wild animal of a truly alien species. Ease of care is also a part of it but it is not the main focus.
That said I can't say that I necessarily prefer snakes to lizards, it just worked out that I have more snakes in my collection than lizards,..at THIS POINT!

As to proving my love for them.
When I have just spent an afternoon cleaning cages and I go back in and my nose notifies me that somebody has taken it upon themselves to nullify all my efforts,...

I don't make myself a new hatband!

Snakes are among the most hated and feared or worshipped and idolized animals across all cultures on the planet. It is equally difficult to describe the innate terror some people have of snakes without having ever had a personal interaction with the animal in their lives as it is to describe why one feels attracted and awed by them.
For me, the fascination lies in the mystery. They will never be "tamed" nor "trainable" but can at the same time show a recognition and a tolerance for their owners. There is something eerie in the fact that they never blink or show any facial expressions: you'll never win a stare-down match!
The lack of arms or legs makes a snake unique in the way it moves and is perceived: distancing it even further from our ability to relate on a biological level.
They are almost totally silent animals... aside from an occasional hiss (or rattle) which also makes them alien and mysterious.
I love their elegance of movement, their economical biology and their almost unique (in the animal kingdom) ability to inspire extreme emotional reactions in people. Along with sharks, they are among my favorite animals on the planet.
(On a side note: if I wanted all the work -- and interaction --that comes with lizards, I'd rather have a puppy!!)

That was a really good answer--until the puppy part. Been there, done that, never again over my dead body.

Ah snakes. I don't own any, but I do love them.

The feel of a snake curling about your arm is pretty much like nothing else. They are wonderfully graceful, too. They make excellent subjects for paintings, and photos. Plus, they have a long standing love/hate relationship with classical literature and folklore, which is where I found I first liked snakes.

Traditionally in literature, the snake would almost inveitably lead you toward your own misfortune if you let it. I always thought that they were unfairly put upon as symbols of evil, though, because in many stories the misfortune came about because of the person's own greed or stubborness. But that, I think, is a debate that should probably stay with English class, huh?

Still, people seem to fear them simply because they exist. I guess I've always routed for the underdog, so to speak, because I seem to be fascinated with any creature that garners hatred just because they are alive.

Rachel put it best I think..for me anyways... but I have to add that snakes stir in me an emotion when I look at them much like when a person sees a beautiful sunset, or lightning, awe and sometimes a little fear. They give goosebumps and they slither around on your arm. Majestic is the only way I can describe my Brazilian Rainbow Boa.

And as for cats being unattached...my gandalf (cat) is more attached to me than any of my reptiles so I am not entirely sure why they're brought up. I only want to say...I hate dogs
