Hello,
Why do people have a favorite color? There is no real logical reasoning for it other than that color happens to be one they find attractive for some reason. I guess the same could be said for snakes.
I keep both snakes and lizards and I enjoy them equally. Snakes have the "unique" factor to them. Its hard to pinpoint what about them that is so fascinating, especially when trying to think about it. All I can say is that my favorite color is blue and I really like my snakes. I don't have an explanation for either. It is what it is. lol

So far what I get is you guys/gals LIKE snakes. There's nothing wrong with that. I'm just trying to find someone who loves them.

Hey. It's not nice to hijack threads.LOL.
Lizards are just more personable. They have many different facial expressions and body movements. Sometimes when they eat out of your hand(not recommended for snakes by the way) they say thank-you. Without the words. I used to have a giant frog-eye that would watch Star-trek with me. He wouldn't otherwise notice the T.V. unless that show was on. Petting a lizards head and they close their eyes cause it feels real good. They make you feel like they return your love.

I am with you on the lizard preference, Mike. That said, here's what I love about snakes: I love the feeling of a snake's smooth skin when I hold them; I love the way they wrap around my arm; I love the fact that (with certain snakes), I can let my kids sit and hold them without worrying that the snake will run away or fall out of their hands; I love the way my daughter just adores snakes (and I don't think she has any logical reason -- it's a genuine love I see in her).
But I enjoy lizards because they just seem more like "pets" to me (the legs help). I agree that they can have neat facial expressions. It's great fun to watch the geckos pounce on crickets, and I enjoy seeing my Bearded Dragon take a little swim in his tub or munch his greens.

I wasn't going to intervene on this thread because I don't have snakes but I understand Mike's point of view. (A lot of) Lizards are not detached from their owners and "communicate" at some level with them. So when some lizards display the "puppie effect", it's quite easy to understand why keepers love them, even for non-herp folks.
Let me throw some gas into the fire: are snake people like cat people? Do they love their snakes because they are detached?

Nope, I dont think so...I love my lizards equally as much. My Bearded Dragon and leo are very personable and love chill and watch tv with me. Just for the record, I am definitely NOT a cat person, lol.

Im not a cat person either, I do like lizards and snakes and spiders. For the spiders at first gave me the creeps, till I got more fond of learning, looking at all the colors, watching them in general is interesting.
For lizards, they were my first, and I love them. They have so much personality to them. Watching them run after food and then looking up at you when you walk by. Scratching the glass wanting out. Crested being a devil he is and biting me, watching him get baby food all over him lol.
The snakes, i love them too. I dont like smaller snakes as much as the big ones. Just to hold that shear power in my hands and feel it as the move about me. Their colors and the variety they come in. The way they can move about with out legs. They are just amazing to me
I dont like cats much, but I have had a few cats. wild and normal house ones, all great but id rather have a dog over them.

I love cats as well as lizards and snakes, and my cat is NOT detached! Maybe some cats are like that, but my cat follows me around, sleeps with me every night, has a special glass that he likes to drink his water from, and all kinds of nutty way-too-spoiled things! And all the cats I've ever had have been very people-oriented. Honestly, in my experience, the detached-cat stereotype is just a myth. (Not saying there aren't any detached cats out there, but I've never met one.)
