Christmas Eve Herp Stories

About 7 years ago, Sean (5) and his brother Daniel (7) were quietly playing in they’re rooms winding down for Santa to come. It was around 8 pm and my husband and myself were hoping that soon it would be lights out and we would hear snoring coming from the room they shared. Unfortunately, the next sound we heard was crash and whoosh. Visions of a trip to the ER on Christmas Eve ran through my head (shouldn’t that have been sugar plumbs). We ran to their bedroom and opened the door to 3” on water all over the floor. While they were playing quietly in their room, they had decided to try out the new jump rope one of them had gotten as a gift from school. They proceeded to tie one end of the jump rope to the knob on the dresser drawer. But on top of the dresser was a 55-gallon aquarium with only two residents. One was as albino African claw foot frog, named Miss Piggy. She was as big as your hand and algae eating fish that was about 6” long. They had managed to pull the dresser and the tank over onto the floor. Of course the tank smashed. Here I was in ankle deep in water trying to up plug cords; catch a frog and a fish, with tears running down my face. We had every towel in the house to help absorb the water on the floor. On Christmas Eve we had to make a trip to my sister to borrow her wet vac to suck up as much water as we could. We had to rip up the carpeting and put it outside, what a Christmas Eve to remember. By the way, both the frog and the fish survived. But both boys were afraid that Santa wasn’t going to bring them anything as they had been naughty only hours before he was suppose to visit their house. Now we all sit back and chuckle over the trying to catch the frog that wouldn’t hold still and the fish that kept flopping around. I should have know that a frog on the floor Christmas Eve was an omen, that in future years one frog would grow into the monstrosity we now have.

Does anyone else have one to share?

The Boyd’s (Marty, Colleen, Daniel and Sean) wish each of you a save and happy Holiday Season.

The worst we ever had was when we got the Golden Retrievers that were just recently house broken, and got confused by a tree in the Living room. They had been relieving themselves on it all night at our family christmass party, but they were sneaky and went behind it, so we couldn't see, the next morning it smelled awful. We have a vent that was covered behind the tree, but the cover came loose from them tinkering with it, and the dogs managed to get just enough urine in the vent to make the master bedroom, and the family and living rooms reak of urine.
