You know you love herps when...

Has anybody else noticed how SLOW it has been around here lately?

Come on! Let's have some lively discussion that isn't too taxing on the grey matter; this thread has been done before (by me of course) but we can add some new ones and laugh at some time honored ones...and without further ado:

You Know You Love Herps When....(or alternatively You Know You Have Too Many Herps When...)

1.) You spend equal amounts of money on herp accessories and bath/beauty supplies (yes this actually happened to me)

2.) There are more rodents in the freezer than people food (yes this is an actual situation in my household)

3.) The first thing you do every day when you come home is "the rounds" to check everybody's temps, water dishes, etc.

4.) Your feelings are very hurt when the gecko won't let you pick her up

5.) You think hissing is a charming greeting

6.) You hate crickets more than traffic, bad weather, and sneaky politicians

7.) If something goes missing you're sure the geckos had something to do with it

8.) Your house has a tropical atmosphere and you have an exorbitant gas bill

9.) There are bugs in the crisper drawer of the fridge

10.) You don't mind those annoying grocery fliers filling up the mail box because they make excellent substrate

Ok let's hear some from other people

what about when you start talking about yur herps like they're people. i do that all the time in my conversations and if someone looks clueless I tell them who i'm talking about. it usually results in weird looks but oh well!

Thought of a couple more:

You seriously considor bringing the boa under the covers to warm him up ( all 7' of him)

If you want a drink in the middle of the night but you don't turn on the lights so as not to disturb the reptiles but then you have to step VERY carefully just in case one got out...

You know what "snakey" smells like

...whenever you go pet shop hopping you find yourself contemplating whether or not the small furry creatures for sale would make good snake food or not...

...you are willing to get up early on the weekend to go buy feeders...

...you have actually driven four hours to get good feeders...

...pillow cases are not used to cover pillows in your household...

...you can name more than four corn snake morphs off the top of your head and spell them correctly...

...you are aware that the term "brumation" has nothing to do with the preparation of coffee...

...you refer to your herps as your children of part of the family.

...you cant go out of town because there is no one to babysit the herps.

When you go grocery shopping and buy stuff in boxes that will make the best hides for the herps!

When you have a big box next to the other junk you have to recylce and it's marked "rats and snakes" and full of different sized klenex, shoe, rice, and cereal boxes, toilet paper rolls ect...

When you have no problem sharing your bed, when the furnace goes out in the middle of winter, just to keep all the herps warm!

When people stop over and ask about your animals before they ask about your kids....

When you see an old hunk of wood on the side of the road and you wonder how you can fit it in the bathtub to disinfect it for your new Iguana cage.

When you see a rock while out walking and wonder which snake tank it would look best in.

Re:

I'm new to Herp care, but I've got one....

...when you look at both the new refrigeration units in Wal-Mart AND your girl friend's step-dad's new garage utility room, and think "those would make GREAT Iguana habitats." Yay...I came up with one...I think that every time I come into our new Wal-mart...brand new empty, warm cooling units...would be perfect...as would the 12'L X 9'H X 4'W utility room in his new garage.

How about

going to school to give a talk and the teachers suddenly come down with a mysterious illness.

Your kids can't find the popcicles for the micecicles.

your husband can't figure out why the light bulbs are missing from the lamps.

people are very cautious when approaching any box you bring in.

you go to garage sales to look for anything for a hide/house.

Nothing is just a cabinet ,shelf ,display case anymore becuase anything and everything you look at has the potential to house a Herp.

You enjoy trips to the home depot and lowes instead of asking again and again how long its going to take dad to fine waht he looking for (now im the one that takes to long)

There is never no room left for another tank

you design your new room around the new Ig enclouser

and when your herps eat better than you do
