I'm not trying to start an argument here but, If it's good enough for me?

Here in Maryland hundreds of people we're drinking good enough water (so they thought) what they didn't know was 25,000 yes twenty five thousand gallons of gasoline leaked into the ground water, gasoline treated with MTBE. With out going into a long this and that, MTBE is highly water soluble and only takes a small amount to pollute a vast area. How long did it take for 25,000 gallons to leak from a small hole? Thats how long people had been drinking polluted water. Best part is now that it's spreading throughout Maryland and MTBE levels are increasing in various areas, they only tell you that the levels where the spill occurred are declining, and down playing the health effect as possible, truth is they don't know and neither do I.

This is an extreme case, granted, but my point is you really don't know, for yourself or your little friends.

I'm still going to go right on ahead with what i'm doing. If our tapwater was under suspicion of being unsafe of course I wouldn't use it but until i'm told otherwise i'll be drinking tap water right there with them.

My whole family drinks our tap water....my husband, me, kids, pets...don't have much choice since we couldn't possibly afford to use nothing but bottled. However, when we had snakes, I did remove the chlorine with Reptisafe. It wasn't expensive, and it was easy to do, so why not?

There's so much to worry about in the world that I'd worry myself sick if I thought about it too much, especially when it comes to things that might affect my kids...from pesticides on fruits and vegetables to chemical contaminants in tap water to e. coli in salad greens to crazy drivers on the street...we just do the best we can and muddle on.

So unless we're suddenly told to stop drinking the tap water by some official somewhere, we'll hope for the best and drink it up.

Personally, we have always filtered ours, for us and anything we have. Recently we put in a RO at the sink, and now anything thats not boiled gets RO water, (yes I know boiling doesn't remove impurities, but it kills lots of things). Ro water, waters the dog all the lizards and my kool-aid (grape of course, unless its a rasberry kind-of day).

And Moshpitrockchick my point was, the water you drink, your always told not to drink it After they find out it's bad, never before (ie after you've already been drinking the bad water).

I'd love to put in an RO...unfortunately we can't afford to do that any time in the near future. *sigh*

Well I talked to my dad because he works in the water treatment center and the sewage plant here. so he knows what is in the water and if it would be safe for my lizard or not. he says it will be fine. so I will stick with using regular tap water. My dad treats our house water every day and checks the water coming out of our tap everyday so I am fine with using our tap water. but thanks for the answers.

What type of filtration were you using before the R.O. ? Boiling will not remove many chemical compounds found in some water supplies, and therefore gives a false sense of security. All it will really accomplish is the killing of bacteria.
Most water filters will not remove chemicals either. That is were the R.O. comes into it's own. Depending on which set of chemicals you are talking about, the R.O. is capable of removing up to 99.97 %. Still not complete.
I hope you are using the R.O. water for your cooking and bathing as well, if you are that concerned with chemical contamination. Many chemicals are soluble enough to be absorbed through the skin causing toxic levels as well.
There are better things to worry about in my opinion.

I know this is going to get read wrong but here goes:

I refer you back to this, LotharsPeople, and yes 99.97% yes more important things to worry about (tire falling off the car at 80 mph, i don't check my lug nuts daily)

But which membrane more easily absorbs compounds the skin or the stomach, small intestine, and colon?

Oh by the way did I mention my house shakes from the bombs they drop at APG, and even in the Bay report they have (unknown metal contamination) in the bush river presumably from APG run off. The WWII mustard gas bomb they found some months back where did they want to bring it (give ya a hint APG) N.B.C. (not the national broadcast company).

For the longest time it was OK to have nuclear fall out rain down on you, heck some claimed health benefits of being irradiated. Case and point the movie project X was based on a real experiment conducted at Brooks AFB, TX where they were testing to see if low doses of radiation would extend life expectancy.

Your missing the point, peoples complacency is my point here, the it's ok until they tell me it's not, is not ok. Be proactive, don't always take what people tell you as fact, look it up, research it. This mentality is what propagates poor and out right dangerous information (note: I'm not saying chlorinated water is dangerous {life threating} to your iguana, unhealthy yes I believe that.).

We have one of the filters that connects right to the faucet. then I let water sit for at least 24 hours (Don't know why that's just what I do).
