I went to petco yesterday to get some feeders and looked at their reptiles, there was a baby Bearded Dragon that I am nearly sure is going to die. It was curled up under a hide and I thought it WAS dead.

I told the employee about it and she ignored me the first time, so I asked her if she could check on it and she moved it into a water dish..it was alive...but not moving much. There was filthy calci-sand in there, HUGE mealworms (almost as big as the lizards themselves), dead AND live crickets littering the cage, plus to top it off...the veggies were cut to where they were the same size as the lizard's head. ARGH are they really THAT stupid?!?!

It wasn't hard to figure out what could be the problem there, when I tried to let the girl know that it needed a bit of help she said "sometimes they just sleep funny". I told her "I keep reptiles and can tell when something is wrong with them and that one needs help badly or it will die". Of course they don't listen but they won't even give me the option to take it home and save it's life.

I am sorry, but I HAD to rant just a bit. I haven't even gone off about the OTHER reptiles that were having issues. I just wish they'd listen!

Here in Ontario the Humane Society investigates reports of unhealthy conditions for pets in pet stores. There used to be a small pet store in my town of 5000 people. Just walking in the store was very nauseating. Eventually they got reported enough, were investigated and shut down. If you and others keep reporting the conditions at Petco eventually something has to happen.

The store here is worse. They keep huge creaturews in small cages. The have about 20-30 vine snakes in a 10 gallon. They have an iguana with its complete nose gone. To go on would make you vomit.

You may want to call your local Humane Society to report it.

I don't like Petco either. The one here has shown me the same uncaring attitude as you just described.

Petland is another one. I was once told a dying corn snake was "just shedding".

Gee that must be the going thing with Petco...last week they had baby Bearded Dragons on calisand with mealworms crawling around. It doesnt do any good to say anything anymore,,,I have sent numerous emails to corp with no respone. The are spinless cowards and I hate them.

our local privately owned pet store calls me for advice with their reptiles the sick ones usually come here for a visit till they are all better.

It's all about making a buck....keep reporting them andthe humane society will just stop taking you seriously. You'll have to hope to get lucky and find out that they are abusing something cute and furry otherwise no one is going to bat an eye.

i do agree with that. unless it's a herp lover in the humane society forget it. they only are really worried about bunnies and puppies and kitty cats...well whatever there is way more out there then little furry things!!

We need to give these guy a round of appulse, for caring enough to seek help!

That doesn't even work in our area. The same pet store that Sean is talking about, dyed their easter bunnies pastel colors. They made the front page of the paper.
