Mediterranean Gecko

Right after coming to work this morning, a female employee went to the loo and started yelling for me. She had discovered what she described as a lizard (Anole), sitting on the floor, staring at her.

I took a close look, and at first, it looked like a tiny alligator, but the triangular head and weird eyes screamed "gecko"; it's a very light pinkish-brown with dark brown stripes across the tail. I put it in a paper cup and plan to take it home and raise it.

I've read that they like red baby food; I'll try that and also buy some "pinhead" crickets. I would greatly appreciate any advice. I had no idea geckos were in S.W. Georgia, and look forward to raising this one.

You are probably correct about it being a gecko. They are adorable arent they?? And yes, so many have travelled over from abroad and been let go that they have created a community in GA, Fl. and Tx....ENjoy your little one and dont forget to keep him warm....they are more insectivorious than fruit eaters...but you can try the fruit...let us know if you have any more questions.....Oh and Welcome to HC Network!

Hi, welcome to the forum... it sounds as though it is a gecko, post pictures if you get the chance and we can get you a positive ID.

Boy what a find! I don't want to tell you what you might find in the bathroom where I work. LOL I'll take a gecko any day.

We've had our little mediterranean gecko for a few weeks now, he does like the baby food and pinhead crickets, but he REALLY loves the small flightless fruit flies. They sure are cute, hope you enjoy yours. Here is a picture of our little guy, Raul.
