Lizards on a Plane
hello all,
I do not condone what I'm about to share, but I had to do what I had to do: As most of you may know, I moved from Michigan to Arizona. I was going to ship my 2 CWDs overnight through the post office as it would have caused me $30 instead of the $80 that UPS would've charged me. Both told me that I could not send reptiles so I was going to do what some breeders do and send them anyway (I guess in West Michigan you need a special account with UPS to send non-venomous lizards). Well, I spent all of the day packing and getting ready to ship off packages on Friday. I went to the post office and shipped off most of my packages and was going to come back to my house to get the 2 CWDs a little later. One of my packages were over 70 lbs so I had to bring it back home and make it lighter. I had to put them in 2 different boxes. Then I had to prepare my lizards to ship them off. By the time I was done, I had 6 mins to get to the post office which was about 10 mins away. I was 2 mins late. I couldn't ship them off. I didn't want to go to UPS cuz I was on a strict fixed budget and couldn't afford paying the extra $50. So the next morning I put each in it's own specially tailored (by myself) pillowcase, stuck them in each of my pockets of my cargo shorts, and headed off to the airport. I had my pet bunny as a carry-on, and had to go through check-in procedures and such. I did not go off as I went through the metal detector (I made sure I had no metal on me) and everyone was distracted by the cute bunny I had anyway. I was able to allow my lizards to ride on the plane with me. I had them secure in their pillowcases and in my big pockets. They slept most of the way and we all made it to Phoenix safe and sound. My lovely fiance was able to get a 65 gallon enclosure, with furniture lamps, and leaves, for $100. My 2 lizards are as happy as can be and definately deserve their new home. Everyone I came in contact with were impressed with how well behaved the bunny was, especially for his first flight, but little did they know how well behaved my other pets were .

I'm very glad it worked out for you.
However if they had discovered what you were doing it would NOT have been pleasant.

all it would have taken is a pockets check and you would have had a major headache on your hands, what you did was very irresponsible and your lucky you didn't lose your herps....At least you got away with it, and now everything is well and good which im glad to hear that nothing happened otherwise.

does make you think tho....how many people smuggle herps like that? Some dudes got cuffed at our airport once with like 30 armadillo girdled lizards strapped on the inside of their jackets. You wonder how many get away with it hey...
