At one year, an average Iguana should be somewhere around 20 to 27 inches.
As a rule of thumb, I use the following as a guideline for active lizards (I count Iggies as an active lizard).
Side to side = 2 to 3 times the length of the lizard
Front to back = 1 to 1.5 times the length of the lizard
Height for climber (like an Iggie) = 1.5 to 2 times the length of the lizard.
At one year, it's enclosure should be at least 4 to 6 ft side to side, 2 to 4 ft front to back, and 3 to 5 ft tall.
By this standard, by the time your iguana is 5 years old, his enclosure would be something like 10 to 15 feet side to side, 5 to 8 feet front to back, and 7 to 10 feet high. If you're thinking that's the size of a small room, you're correct.
By my standards, most Iguana enclosures are too small.
