snake question

hello I havn't posted on here yet but I have recently been to a local zoo and found that in the snake section there was a very large burmese python in an encloser with several rat snakes and corn snakes and was wandering whether they would get along ok or if the smaller snakes would be attaked? Does any one keep pythons with other snakes?

Thanks alot Daniel.

I doubt the python would bother the other snakes, more so in a Zoo environment where the animals are properly fed and cared for. However, I don't approve of mixing species in the confinement of captivity and I'm surprised a zoo would do this. Just my opinion.

Mixing in general is a very bad idea!

Not to mention the danger of the burmese physically crushing the smaller snakes due to its large size.
Not only NOT a good idea but IMO very poor behavior for an institution that should know better.

Welcome to the HC Network!
For all the reasons stated above and others it's not a good idea. Snakes in zoos are not usually separated for feeding and that can --and does -- cause problems. Either a snake will get eaten by another or killed in the process of struggling over the food item.
"Zoos should know better". After my 2 week volunteer stint at our zoo, I found that the people who know better are often over-ruled by the administration that is focused on how to keep the money coming in.
Lots of different colorful snakes in one terrarium attract more people than one sleeping burm. (The entertainment industry -- maximize the "oohs and ahhs!" --- it's wrong and sad because it imparts incorrect information to people and it's dangerous for the animals involved.)

You got that right Andrea!
And the novice keepers sees this done and assumes that is the proper way to do things.
After all its a ZOO!
