Hypothetical

I just moved into my new place, and got Ira all checked out at the vets, and all went well, pending the fecal, but he was just checked less than 6 months ago, so I don't forsee any problems.

A friend of mine called me this morning and asked if I had a spare aquarium, to which I replied, I acually have a few from when I was fostering all kinds of critters. He asked if I could take a 16 inch okeetee corn snake, all the owner wanted was 40 dollars to cover the vet check it had last week.

The reason for getting rid of it was that it was an impulse buy for her son, and it apparently ate 2 of their three baby parakeets because it got out. It was eating very well before the birds, and has been fed once since then and all went well. I like the set-up because it was checked by the same vet that I use, and she has always been great.

If you guys were in my shoes would you take it, the other alternative is it being turned into a pet shop that may or may not (emphasis on "may not") be a good place to put it. I have kept many snakes as fosters, but I have never had a snake as "forever" pet because when I was younger my family was freaked out by them, and my significant other here is skeptical.

She said she woud keep it till next week, so any in put you can give would be great.

I'd say you're probably the best bet for that snake's life at the moment. Go for it.

Even if all you do is keep it until you can adopt it out to a good home, it sounds like it's better off with you than with a family who sees a snake as an "impulse buy".

Those must have really been BABY, baby parakeets to have been eaten by a 16 inch corn snake!
Its up to you whether or not you want to give the $40 back to the people or not. I can almost guarantee that a pet shop wouldn't!
But cornsnakes ARE great snakes.

Hello,

I would take it in a heartbeat as well. I doubt I would be paying the $40.00 though. You will be doing them a favor taking the snake in.

Maybe my adult okeetee eating one bird but not two! Ok how many birds make one med. rat? Go for it, they are quite easy to take care of.
