i would say chameleons in general are the hardest of all herps to keep. They require different care to collards...

chameleons should only be kept if you are real an enthusiast...they do not like to be handled and have very species specific care requirements .

they are not really a "pet" herp if you know what I mean....ok that was my 2cents...lol

What species are you looking at? There are numerous species of chameleons and all have VERY specific requirements regarding temperature and humidity. And none of them are considered an "easy" lizard. They stress easily and will not tolerate much handling.

My short experience working at our local zoo taught me that chams are so sensitive stress that it can (and does) literally kill them. four of the zoos chams died in the two weeks I was there. Two males kept together "temporarily" stressed each other to death. It was tragic.
They are NOT easy animals to keep and are not "handling" pets. They are DEFINITELY cool animals, but if you want a good sized pet lizard, a bearded dragon might be a better choice.

they are killed very often by stress....even a reflection of themselves on glass! You can't even keep 1.1 together

I totally agree that chams are not the easiest or the best of starter lizards to go for.

there are lots and lots of species out there that you could choose form but if you are set on getting a cham of some type then I would personally recommend going for one of the pygmy group. these do not require a UV light and their requirements are not quite as strict as the likes of veileds and panther chams.

If you coudl maybe post up about what type of cham you were wanting and what info you know already - set up tye etc then maybe we could help more from there.

seriously have to disagree with the uv light requirments....

all chams require a uvb light source

There are several places over here in the UK who sell pygmy chams nad all of them state that they have no UVB requirements.

Maybe they are wrong nad if so, I apologise for posting incorrect info but that is what I have read on several forums also.
