I'll ask a silly question!

After Todd's plea for any and all questions and warnings to y'all not to laugh at me; I decided to throw this one out there...

I've had my Brazilian Rainbow Boa (4 year old, 6ft+) for 5 weeks now. She was fed the day before I got her and I've since fed her twice. I bought small rats, so I was feeding her 2 or 3 each time.
About every 4 days or so, I'd clean up a white/yellow solid blob in the cage and (obviously incorrectly) assumed that the bigger ones were feces and the smaller urine...
Well the other night there was a 10" long grey-brown stool in the cage! It was about 2.5" in diameter and looked a lot like a dog's mess (and I mean German Shepherd, not Chihuaha!!) I was completely shocked!! (It was firm and didn't smell too strongly, but it was HUGE!!)
I've only had garter snakes (which ate fish) and green snakes (which ate crickets) before and I've never seen anything like that come from a snake in my life!!
Calculating it all: there are AT LEAST remnants of 8 rats in that...
Should I expect them all to be that huge or do you think she's been constipated?
Wow, live and learn... what'll it be next?

LOL! Yes the white stuff is urates. The brown stuff is feces. I'm not sure with Brazilian Rainbow Boa but my ball pythons will sometimes go 2-4 weeks between their little gifts to me! And yes they can be quite substantial for the size of the snake! They tend to keep things in their digestive tracts longer than corns or other colubrids.

Thanks!

I thought so; it's just the size of it that surprised me... nothing "little" about a gift like that!!!
Just checking if that was "normal": size-wise. Good to know what to expect in the future.
Now I have to change all my notes on her records (hee hee!)

Agreed Merlin, and if this is the first time it went since you got him, it would be rather large. It all depends on how much they eat in between poos. This is a great discussion to have after lunch...lol

My 6.5 ft red tail boa can leave a present similar in size to my yellow labs in her cage. But it is great that they only go 2-3 times a month.
