The problem with hognoses is that they are illegal to keep in quite a few states for two reasons.
1. They are a native species and therefore illegal to keep in certain states
2. They are technically rear fanged and alot of states don't allow the keeping of any venemous snakes.
Also if you really consider getting one, you should know they are picky eaters and may eat nothing but toads and other small amphibians.
Because they are a rear fanged snake, you can't guarantee someone won't react to a bite severely, though ive never heard of anyone being bitten by a hognose as they like false bite and bang their head into you.
Otherwise its my favorite north american species of snake, i tried keeping one as a pet for a while but it was wild caught and I couldn't get it to eat.
The only way ive seen thus far to acquire them is through reptile shows and expos.
