Consider the source and purpose

I must admit I went to see SOAP and thouroughly enjoyed it. Not because it was factual. It was quite entertaining, even if it was a falsehood. Most of the folks out here on Herp Center know better than to take the scenes seriously. I laughed at the scenes more than I feared them. Besides, I like snakes more than most of the people. Maybe that is just me. Hollywood does not make money in putting out truth. It makes money by entertaining or shocking folks. And I have to admit I will think differently on my next flight. Especially when they tell us not to tamper with the smoke detectors. lol Folks have been trying to convince us that snakes are evil ever since the apple incident in the Garden of Eden. The Herp folks all know better.

Ok... I just saw it last night, and had to put in my two cents.

It was.... violent. Yep. I'm sort of a wimp when it comes to violence, and in all honestly I think the stuff some poisons do to the human body is just... terrifying. Seriously, venomous snake bites=pee my pants. Plus I don't do good with sudden loud noises, which this movie had in abundance. So yes, I did get kinda scared here and there, but when you are a fatty wimp like me... it happens.

It sort of helped that for some reason all the snakes went for the most ridiculous places... I mean, really. Breasts...tongues...eyeballs...? Yep, when snakes attack... they go for the most personal places they can find. LoL. Sooooo the "realism" points = -14 for this movie.

I was VERY disappointed that there weren't more real snakes. I thought the computer graphics were really cheesy, and they made such a big deal about this movie having the most real snakes ever on a set...

But I ended up having tons of fun because I got to see it with my other snake loving friend, and there was nobody else in the theater with us so we spend half the movie yelling out "ALBINO CORN! BERMESE PYTHON! KINGSNAKE! CALIFORNIA KINGSNAKE! ...Oooooo! Cobra!" ...and making fun of the fact that snakes were...on a plane.

Sooo my take on the movie? If you don't mind a lot of violent grossness and can enjoy not taking things seriously, it's hecka fun.

Once again, I gotta (for the most part) agree with Queen O'Green. *grins*

At one point, I was finding myself upsetby the sheer terror and death. But then I blinked and said, "What the heck, it's a B movie! Violence and death all around, woohoo!" Just the way that they OVERDID lots of the gore became hilarious. (Although I didn't like the bit at the very beginning too much. You know what I mean. With Mr. Kim.)

Unfortunately I'm not a snake expert, but I darn well knew those snakes weren't really poisonous. And really, who cares? It's just a movie. T here were MANY plot holes, but somehow that only made it more enjoyable, cackling in the theatre XD I felt bad for the snakes though; they were victims as much as anyone else. But then, once again, I realized -it's a movie!

Sam Jackson was great. Actually, as someone who has seen buttloads of really REALLY bad B-movies, this one really wasn't. It was more a B+ movie, or an A- movie. :P And a lot of the characters were pretty interesting -they gave them little personality quirks. Of course, I had my brain set on 'low" for this movie, and I really enjoyed myself. It could have been much, much worse: The acting was actually decent! The script, despite being filled with plot holes, was not bad! And the snakes! Were on the mothereffing plane!

I loved it! I laughed! I cried! Except I was crying from laughing so hard! I screamed, and then laughed some more! A lot of the laughing, yes, came from inaccurate snake behavior. Or UNLIKELY snake behavior ;p I love snakes, but I don't love them so much that I can't see imaginary snakes get imaginarily killed in a film... Heck, I don't think I love ANYTHING that much.

So go forth, herpers! I proudly put down my money so I could see a movie that didn't pretend to be "hip" "smart" or "meaningful"! It was stupid! It was pointless! Metaphor? My arse! It was just snakes on a plane!

And there's not a got-demn THING you can do 'bout it.
