Escapee

Hi ya'll,

I haven't been on here for awhile so I'll bring ya up to date......Rosie and Kane both went to the herp vet and got a clean bill of health, in spite of the fact that I snapped Kane's tail off and Rosie has been darker than I'd like her to be. They were both tested for parasites and thoroughly discussed. Ms. herp vet gave us an "A" in effort and herb husbandry, we do realize that she is getting paid to do that.
Anyway, Rosie got a new house- I decided on the Iguana Home
(big apple herp) until we can get the other habitat built, I wanted to get them both in larger habs figuring that it would take at least 2 weeks to construct the other. At any rate, the new home had larger spaces than I realized so we puchased some plastic/wire mesh and zip ties to wrap around the home. Well guess what, we didn't do the top because we didn't think she would try to get out that way. Ha! I should have known better. Ok....bad mom.......anybody have any advice as to how to find her? We've been searching all night. She isn't very big, 6 months old, a darker green rather than a bright green like her partner in crime. To complicate things, I have 2 pugs and a blind lab. I'm not so much worried about lab, the pugs are another story. We also live in a "cottage" style house and the front doors (sliding glass) have no screens as well as some of the windows do not have them either.
HELP!! What do I do? There are so many places she could be hiding!! I'm hoping she is up high somewhere............Should I leave the dage door open for her in the event she decides to return on her own?

Sorry for rambling, but I am jsut at my wits end. I feel like I just got her to the point where she is healthy and we are starting to bond. I'm so sad.

Any advice and/or prayers will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Shelli

Search for other "escape" threads for numerous advice.
A well thought plan should include:
- close all doors;
- check thoroughly one room and keep all other animals locked there;
- room by room, search everything, from low to high (specially high) and don't dismiss any "improbable" spaces like between curtain drapes for example;
- if you still don't find it, you can leave a small dish of greens on the floor and surround it with a small layer of flour. The room with tracks/footsteps will be the one where she is.

Good luck!

Don't forget to always leave all doors closed. Don't want her to go hide into a room you've already checked.
If your house is cold, leaving a table lamp on (like a basking spot on the floor) nearby the veggie dish might also help you find it because she will heat herself there.

On another similar thread (snake escapee), Merlin said to turn TV/stereo/etc off and sit very quiet and still in the room where the enclosure is. If you can hear a snake moving, you'll sure hear an iguana =)
