velcro question
Can anyone give me advice on using velcro for an enclosure door? I think it would be strong enough to keep my ig's from getting out...... but, not sure?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

The question is too general and depends on several variables including but not limited to:
1) size of the iguanas 2) size of the door 3) amount of velcro used 4) enclosure "fixtures" that the iguanas could press against for leverage Probably many other factors I missed..... |

velcro spec's
I am making two enclosures.
One for Ti almost 2 feet enclosures size is 2.5 ft three sided triangle, the "door" I wanted, would be a flap from the top corner. The velcro is "industrial enclosures" and would be the length of 2.5 ft on one side and 3.5 ft on the other, revealing a triangular opening. I could place the "climbing structure's" to not be to near the flap. The 2nd one is for Shooter a little over 3 feet he weighs about 12lbs His enclosure is 4 ft by 5 ft and the same strength velcro would be used. and again a flap from the top of 4 ft by 3.5 ft. flapping down in a triangle. I feel that making the doors peel down from the top would take away possible stable pushing grounds. and I would arrange the climbing things to not be next to the door? Does this help? |

I have 4 years experience with soft side cages and iguanas -- canvas walls with clear door flaps.
In short velcro is no where near strong enough. Go take a look at my cages for ideas on door flaps. Collapsible Cages

If you're making the frame out of wood, you can use rope like I do. It works wonders. I tail six nails, three on the enclosure, and three on the door, at the top, middle and bottom. I tie a rope to each of the nails on the door and when I want to lock it I just wind the rope in a criss cross manner like you would a manila envelope. It is so strong that I know if I were to yank on it as hard as I can until something collapses, the enclosure would topple before it opens the door.
