Hey guys and gals,

We have fallen so in love with our uro, that we want to get another one and possibly breed them. (Not the best track record I know....) Right now our little guy is in a 30 gallon tank. It is set up really well, but I don't think it will be big enough for another uro and the whole breeding process.

Some of the research I have done suggests 5-6 inches of substrate with PVC pipng used for artificial burrows and upside down bowls at the end of the piping, all under the substrate. Each uro is to have it's own burrow with like 6 inches of tunneling. Kinda tough to do with a 30 gallon tank.

I have looked at the possibility of purchasing a much larger tank...say 70-120 gallon...but the price of that, WOW!

I have little to no talent when it comes to building things.

Any thoughts??

Angel - building the tanks isn't as hard as you think. You've only got to make a rectangle out of wood and then it's simple from there.

I'm sure some of the others will be able to help more - I don't really know any suppliers in the US and ours over here are way expensive!!

Good luck with it

Angel since you are working with a desert species building a large tank will not be as difficult are as pricey as you would think.

You can build something sufficient with 1 sheet of 3/4" plywood, some screws, a peice of acrylic/glass, and some poly.

Yep - as the others said your best bet is to build or get someone to help you build. It works out much cheaper and you can make it to your specifications.

I don't know what gallons equal, but for an adult pair of uros you want something around 4ft x2ft floor space.

Hey Angel
I'm currently in the process of building a dersert enclosure for my 2 Bearded Dragons... I'm working on doing natural stone looking sides and back to it using styrofoam and tile grout.
Its coming along well, only the normal set backs (of figuring things out as you go, and wanting to change things after I'm committed to the original idea), but it is going to look good... I think.
So far its run me about $150 for plywood, safe glue, silicon and grout... etc. and the enclosure size is 4 feet 2 inches long by 2 feet 2 inches wide and approx. 2 feet tall.
Being a University Student I don't have a lot of money, so you should be able to come up with something similar if not better.
Good luck, just be creative... creative yet functional!

At HerpHabitats there are a few threads with ideas and tips for converting things like kitchen cabinets, dressers, etc into enclosures.

I've used an IKEA kitchen cabinet for my Bearded Dragon's enclosure and it was easy as assemble it, glue double U plastic rails for the sliding doors, putting the doors in and that's it =)
