I had to fill in the gaps, will it freak out

Ok I have taken the advice of you guys and left the enclosure untouched and unchanged and my iguana has calmed down after a few days. The last thing I changed back then was fill in the gap between the basking platform and the wire mesh, because it was squeezing itself through it, and ended up with a broken dorsal spike.

Today, I noticed that it was trying to squeeze itself through this OTHER gap between the wire mesh and a piece of wood that was part of the frame. Again, almost injuring itself. I quickly took him out of there and I thought for a second if I should fill it and decided that it was necessary because a physical injury was more serious than it not liking change. So I identified all the gaps there, and filled them up with rolled up newspapers. These are the slanted pieces of wood on the corners of the frame that stabilize the wood frame, and there were 6 in total. Even though I have only seen it squeeze through one, I filled them all in once and for all.

Sigh... I had to do it. Now, is my iguana going to freak out all over again? It's just newspapers stuffed into those gaps... I hope not.

Even right after I filled it he was trying to pry his way into there but it couldn't so it stopped.

Hello,

Does your iguana have any "secure" areas in his enclosure? It sounds as if he is seeking out a place to "hide". Perhaps you should offer a box with a side cut off or something similar if you already don't. He may be interested in getting away from everything for a little while. (Including the UV.)

It does have a hiding place. These wood gaps do not go into any hiding places. He is simply always looking for shortcuts up and down from the platform instead of climbing on the rack system and the slanted climbing boards level by level. That is why he is climbing straight up and down on the mesh on the enclosure, and thus squeezing through the cracks between the wood, shelves, and the mesh. I didn't forsee this when building it.

I think I have all the gaps covered now. The question is whether he will freak out again and not eat again for a few days because I added newspaper to those gaps. Basically the four top corners of the enclosure, and the bottom two corners on the back. The two corners on the bottom front (the door) are fine.

Since its just a minor change I would not expect the iguana to have a big problem with it. However I could be wrong. Each iguana is an individual and can react a bit differently.
But you acted correctly, the first concern is seeing to it that it can't get hurt.
