Rack Question

This is what our member has to say: When using a tight fitting rack system, ie. no lids, is it necessary to drill ventillation holes in the tubs? Thanks! Michael...

Hello,

It would be best to drill holes around the entire tub, usually at the top. Do 2-3 rows with each hole about a half inch away from the next.

There are many ways to do it, thats just how I would do it.

I do two rows of holes one about 1/2 inch above the other with the holes about 1 inch apart. They are staggered so that the top row of holes is centered over the space between the bottom holes. I hope that made sense! In other words it you were to connect the holes you would be drawing a "w". I do this all around the box. The holes are approx 1/4 inch. Of course you may have to make them smaller depending on the size of snake you are housing. A 1/4 inch hole will make a nice exit doorway for a hatchling corn.

Mike, Mike!! What are we going to do with you? How long ago did we go through this? Were you over at the Jack Daniels distillery? I seem to remember the pics of the holes you drilled. Of course the ones that you drilled were not in two rows and staggered as Merlin suggested. Go with the 1/4" holes unless as Merlin stated you will be using them for neonate corns and then drop the sizing down to 1/8" holes.
Tell the family that I said hi from Florida.

I am buying a Rack System with tubs provided...

Okay... I didn't know if there would be enough space for air exchange at the top. Of course, this is stupid, as CO2 would settle at the bottom of the tub and not enough air would get in to stir things up a bit.

Fran, you get one "swift kick to the butt" ticket, use it on me when I make it to your neck of the Sunshine State .
