Did you coat the wood with anything on the inside our just left it as is?

That's pretty cool I have plans in the making now i'm going to do what you're doing there vision cages for my three dragons and maybe another two for future herps that I might acquire one being possibly a Mali or ornate uromastyx

How well does heat tape work through wood or substrate?
I am not sure on the wood. It is another thing my husband and I have been arguing about with this build he wanted to put it on outside I wanted it on inside. (with all my complaining i hope he never reads this). It should however penetrate through substrate as long as it is not thick. The trick is having a thermometer probe with your thermostat that way it can heat up to the desired temperature.

I hope you have better luck with the flexwatt than I did. In my boa cage I put it inside the cage and it still only brought the internal temperature up a couple of degrees over a 3 day period.
NO the snake was not in there at the time.
If your room is heated and you only use the flexwatt for a hot spot it might work. I just went back to my tried and true heat emitters.
