I am still not sure what we are doing for heat. I think we have settled on heat tape. We are putting linoleum inside it.

Update: we have it painted all the way now. The doors are finished. All we really have to do is put the heat tape in put the linoleum in, put vents in and done. Ordering the heat tape and stuff for that probably this friday on my day off. Here the past few weeks, my daughter got second degree burns on her in an accident at home, we have had 7 openings at the jail due to various reasons. they have only hired 3 and they have a 45 day training. Needless to say, since we must have a mandatory number of Officers working, I have literally been working an extra 20-30 hours a week. The worse part is it doesnt show any signs of slowing down until everyone is hired and trained. Not to mention i have to run my family. So yeah ive been super slammed but im trying.

Can you take some photos of the heat tape installation? And the linoleum? I really like this idea!

The stuff will be here thursday or friday for the heating. im thinking i may have it done this weekend. ((me and the husband have been arguing on how we were going to heat it. he wanted lights (could you imagine) and i wanted heat tape.)) well guess who won that one..... so what we are doing is putting the 11" heat tape under the linoleum on the left side. painting everything black on outside, installing the lights and voila... done. ill post pictures throughout the rest of the build. cant get it here fast enough.

definately will. i searched and searched the internet. the heat tape manufacturers say it is safe for linoleum and that you just dont want to get the glue on it. so that is what i am doing. i purchased white linoleum that way it is easy to clean and easy to see the babies going in it. we still havent figured out how we are going to fix stuff in it like the branches, or if we will just do basic driftwood that we have collected through the years. the lights will be flourescent lighting from exo terra on a timer, and heat will be on a thermostat.

next were building a reptile room in my basement (its currently unfinished). im thinking that since sb 310 goes into effect by 2014, that ill have to have Tiny in a more secured cage and room. his custom will be next after finishing the reptile room - 2 tiered, all out of thick plywood and un breakable, un shatterable plexiglass. also with the linoleum inside. im pretty excited for the reptile room to say the least. its going to be temperature controlled, humidity controlled (putting in a humidifier). were putting reptile lights in as our main lights to help with the uva and uvb. it is litterally going to be 1/3 of our basement. which will be roughly 500 sq ft? one whole wall will be constructed in windows with the door as a see through glass door. that way you can look in and see them without having to walk in. alot more pictures to come slowly but surely.

i dont see why not. the kind of shelf we got, you basically just slide the shelves in and they lock on the 4 corner metal beams. it came with 5 or 6 but we only put 4 on there. just make sure you reinforce it that way if it gets knocked into it doesnt fall. i think it could honestly work for many kind of animals. me and my husband were talking yesterday that basically even for Chinese Water Dragon you could put the bottom shelf in then cut a hole in one shelf above it and slide in a swimming dish/tub and then finish it out with plywood, branches, lights and a plexiglass framed out door. the only difference with iguanas would be you wouldnt need to cut a hole for a tub unless you wanted to.

Im sure you already said this, but how big is it? Only thing i'd question is how do i put the plywood on the metal? And the depth, for a iguana...

It's 48 x 24 x 72 tall. My husband screwed through the metal with impact drill. Then grinded the Sharp spots off on outside and I just painted and voila. Pictures below.

We do have doors done but not attached yet. The doors, he just cut 2 pieces of plywood and sandwichedthe plexi between it and drilled it together. These below are our messed up ones. The actual doors are MIA at the moment.
