Doubts about beardie cage depth

Hi!
My current terrarium is quickly becoming smaller for Pog and I'm searching for a new one that will house Pog and his future mate whenever we get one.

Right now I have two options: I can buy a something like a doorless kitchen closet in melamine (cheaper solution until we can afford a glass terrarium) or build a glass terrarium (probably much more expensive but definitive).
I was looking at 4 feet long x 2 feet deep x 2,5 feet high but my wife is questioning me about cutting a bit on the depth size so it can fit right on top of one of our living room furniture items.

Do you think that cutting the depth down in 2.5 inches is significative considering we are talking about a 2 Bearded Dragon enclosure?

Hi rbl! In "The Bearded Dragon Manual" it states that the smallest enclosure for one or two adult dragons is either a 4 ft. X 2 ft. or 6ft X 18 in. Hope that helps!

Believe me building is not cheap!

18"?! Ok, seems I was being picky about cutting down 2.5". Thanks! =)

Yeah, you are making a palace =) $400 is a lot of money!

I'm thinking about an IKEA terrarium as a temporary solution. Take a look at this kitchen cabinet (here's the product page).
It costs around $50. Plus a couple of sliding glass doors + a couple of double U plastic thingies for them + some wire mesh for the top, will make the whole thing cost around $75
Buying the melamine wood, cutting and assembling it myself will take $25 off the whole price. Too bad I have two left hands and no tools at all =)

Tomorrow I will know the price for a glass terrarium. But it will cost at least $100.

Remember the 18 in. was on a 6 ft. long enclosure. I wish I could use something like that for my project. My space goes from 2 1/2 ft to 3 1/2 ft back from the front and I have to cut the corners. Mine just has to be custom built from the ground up. Not only that, but the wife wants it to look good when I'm done!

I have those sizes in mind. If we go for the glass one, we will build it 6 foot long.

Hi rbl,

Why don't you build a terrarium out of styrofoam, it's A LOT cheaper and it saves you energy. You only need the two sliding doors in glass! For Bearded Dragons a styrofoam terrarium is excellent!!

Hi Jacky!
I have thought of that after seeing your related threads but being my wife a member of MWWTSPADLTEI, the moment I said styrofoam, she gave me the deadly look =)

I will try to find out what the costs are...
