Bookcase cage

We just finished turning another bookcase into cages. I needed to start separating babies, so I talked the hubby into making another one for me .
It turned out really well. The first one had sliding doors, this time we went for drop down doors for easier cleaning.
Another thing we tried with this one is turning reptile carpet into tunnels. I have a few Leopard Geckos that insist on digging up their papertowels to hide under. I just took a piece of the carpet and made up a mixture of water and elmers glue (since it is non-toxic) and spread it over the top. Once the carpet was completely coated I shaped it by putting knives or anything round that could go into the oven. Put it in a 200 degree oven for about a half hour to an hour, depending on how moist the carpet is. We just checked them off and on for stiffness and dryness.

Thanks! Surprisingly they don't cost to much to put together. The actual bookcase is the most expensive part. Think we spent about $100 for everything. Now all we need to do is cut some circles out of red glass to put over the lights.
I forgot to put a pic of my carpet tunnels. First one was small and simple. The more I did the bigger they got, lol. But they seem to be enjoying them.

Very nice! I use a similar bookcase to hold the boxes that my colubrids are in but have never used them to be a cage themselves. Of course with snakes the little buggers would probably find a way out.
The carpet caves is a very inventive idea!

Awesome cages! I love them. How are you heating them?

The 20 watt accent lamps are the source of heat, The first one I have some dark red glass cut into circles to replace the existing clear lenses. For Leopard Geckos we have to use a little dimmer found at home depo or lowes, it plugs in between the outlet and the light.
