I thought I would throw one of these together for any future help. They're also just fun to do haha. I kind of started taking pictures a quarter the way through but nothing important has been missed. I'm doing this for two 10g crested tanks and my 29g Whites Tree Frog tank.
Here's all the supplies that I'll be/have using/used. Four tubes of GE II silicone black for the background and one tube of GE II silicone clear for sealing in glass(5$ each), two cans of GS(5$ each), screen(5$), screen kit(8$), hinges(2$ each), latches(4$ each), Putty tools for smearing silicone(not shown in picture 4$), spline tool(2$).
Alright lets get started. The screen kit comes with everything you need but screen and a spline tool. It also only has enough corner pieces to make one screen so I had to pick up two extra for that. Most of it is pretty straight forward, just follow the directions it comes with and don't forget to measure twice and cut once!
As far as screening goes save your self time, blood and angry by going with the fiber glass stuff. I started out with aluminum but that stuff just didn't work out to well. It didn't want to go down into the frame and would break from the presure of trying to get it in. I switched to the other stuff and it worked like a charm.
In this picutre I'm trying to show you how I'm working the doors. I didn't want it to flip down like a dishwasher so I fit the hinges on it to swing like a door. I'm going to silicone the glass(excluding the substrate block) to the screen so I'll have full acess to the tank. This picture turned out pretty dark but I think it gives you the idea.
That's it so far. I'm going to start on the background work tomorrow and get glass cut.
Cheers!
