Stain And Sealant

Well I searched forever and didn't really come up with an answer.

What stain should I use?

What sealant should I use?

I need to know brands, doing some searching left me a bit confused. Maybe I'm just tired. I'm starting my build tomorrow and I need to know what to get.

Also, should I stain and seal after it's all together? or should I do it when everything is cut and still in pieces?

Re: Stain and Sealant

There are different routes to take.
You can buy a Rustoleum brand paint called Painters Touch. It comes in many great colors including khaki which I've used.
Or you can stain it with a water-based stain from Miniwax. Then seal it with Miniwax polycrylic product.
Personally I would stain or paint it before assembly. It does a much nicer job and is quicker. Also if you do a light sand between coats it will come out smoother.
Benjamin Moore has a new product line out called Aura which is safe as well.

Re: Stain and Sealant

I am a believer in the min wax products.
And I too prefer to do the panels before they are assembled. MUCH easier to handle.

Re: Stain and Sealant

Alright, I'll go with the minwax route, Can I buy it at my local hardware store?

Also, how many coats of the stain and sealant do you guys like to put on?

Re: Stain and Sealant

Any place that sells paint should have it.
The number of coats of stain depends on how dark you want the color. More coats equal deeper color. try it out on a peice of scrap and see if it is how you like it. I use a minimum of 3 coats of the polycrylic.
