Building a Stream/river

soo i find some forum with a idea using pvc to make a stream for your reptiles enclosure but sadly i cant find it know soo i drew up a basic idea of how it works today during my 15 min break at work...
the the bottom two drawings are just examples so it doesnt have to look the same it can be set up anyway you want heh...all you do is cut PVC in half then set it in the substrate and glue some gravel in the pipe so your reptile can get out with out any problems...just set the pipes at a bit of a angle so the water flows down and into a collection pool with a pump to keep it circulating....thats about it really theres more detail to it i guess but i dont know what else to say soo let me know what you think, put in your own idea for making it work as well if you want heh...you can also make smaller pools before it ends in the main pool so theres a few different places your pet can soak

Instead of glue, you'll want to use an aquarium silicone. I'd get it in black because it will blend better than a clear, plus it won't discolor as it ages. You may also want to think about siliconing gravel or some flat rocks (slate?) to the edge of the PVC otherwise you'll have a glaring white edge to your river.

Some keepers use cork tubes cut in half. If you go to BlackJungle.com, there is a section that explains how to create a "Stream Bed Tank." They even include instructions on how to join two pieces of cork tube. Here's a direct link: Stream Bed

Good luck!

Re: Building a Stream/river

have you thought about using pond liner? I made a regular sized stream out of it. If you could find some scraps it could work really good.

by glue i ment silicone, i should have said that heh... ill check out the link too... for the pond liner idea i would think over time it would get ripped up by the reptile depending on the claws and size of the reptile but maybe more for frogs and what not it would work???

Re: Building a Stream/river

Sounds like a good idea, and something along the lines of something i want to incorparate into a vivarium eventualy.
I was going to have water cascading down the backround like a waterfall, into a small pool, with a stream then flowing towards a larger pool, and have a pump pump water from the large pool, back up to the top of the waterfall.

That link is great, though, you may want to look into that way.
