Update on Water Dragon Viv

After being off of work for a week, this is my progress. Not my entire week was spent on it...had to take a few frustration breaks. Trying to manipulate wood by myself was a tricky thing...got a few bruises to show as trophies. lol It is funny...I see pics of other enclosures...but they do not seem that big in the pictures. I can honestly say that I now have a "monster" in my dining room! lol

The base has had 2 more supports added for the middle...thanks for the input guys. It has 2 coats of stain, been sanded 4 times and is ready for the polyacrylic protective coating.

The "bones" of the upper half of the viv caused me some frustration. Originally, it was to be 4' tall & 6' wide...well, I wanted to stretch it a little more. I built it 5' tall & 6' wide.....guess what?! Wouldn't come up the basement steps again....misjudged the angle of the ceiling. Argh!!!!! So, disassembled downstairs...and reassembled upstairs. lol Every joint in my body hurts this morning.....but I did buy a new drill because of this...lol (gotta love power tools!)

Anyway, this weekend will be putting the "skin" on the bones and sand it down, stain, sand it again & stain again.

Hope you enjoy the pic's.

Re: Update on Water Dragon Viv

its a great start. What do they call it? building a boat in your basement.

Make sure you can get it OUT of the house if for some reason you ever need to.

But just think of all the stories you will have to tell people when you are bragging that you built it yourself!

Re: Update on Water Dragon Viv

I am going to have my daughter help me this weekend take it out the front door of the house...hopefully...lol...before I go any further on it. Now that I am back to work, my time is soooo limited on it during the week. My problem on it came when I extended my measurements on it to make it 5' tall instead of 4'. Wanted that extra foot in height really bad. A queen size box spring is 5' x 6' approx, so I figured I could get away with it. Just did not calculate the slope of the stairway ceiling coming from the basement ceiling properly...never excelled in advanced math when I was in high school.

I have never built anything before...so all in all...I am really proud of how it is turning out. If it fits out the front door...the "skin" will be going on this weekend. I can sand it outside, which will be alot nicer than the clean-up if I had to do it inside. Will post more pics soon...hopefully.
