Built a Crestie Cage.

Hey guys/gals. The reptile show in Calgary, Alberta, Canada is on Saturday and I'm goin with a wad of cash. Among the many types of herps i'm looking for are crested geckos. So I built a cage for them and I'm sharing it with all you experts out there to pick over with a fine tooth comb and offer any constructive criticism or ideas you have. I've never owned crestie's but I've researched extensively. I'd like to hear what everyone's favorite morphs are. Post pics if you have them. Thanks!

Re: Built a Crestie Cage.

The ONLY suggestion i can make (because its a beautiful cage) is a few sturdy cross branches. You should be able to just wedge them in or lean them from the bottom of one side to the top of the other side, wedged in the corners.

Looks great!!

Re: Built a Crestie Cage.

Looks wonderful! Build a few for me, would you?

Are you going to regularly mist them, or put a bowl of water in there for them? Just wondering. I think it looks like a good setup designed for regular misting. Of course I don't know that much about Crested Geckos in particular - if they would do well with misting or not.

Since i'm misting everything else (except my Leo's) I'll be misting twice daily.

The base and the top are 3/4 sanded plywood. The walls are 3/8 plywood. Everything is glued and brad nailed. The frame for the door is 3/4 plywood cut into 1 1/2 strips with a 1/2 slot cut in it to hold the glass in place. I sealed inside with epoxy because of the soil and high humidty/mistings. The light fixture is 3/8 plywood glued and brad nailed with foil type insulation stapled to the inside. 2 incandescent light fixtures on either side. Very easy and cheap. All you need is a pretty accurate table saw (not so cheap).
