Outdoor Window Enclosure

So i live in an apartment and i needed some sort of outdoor cage and the only way i could see that happening was putting it in a window. So this is what i designed and built just the other day. Let me know what you think.
Its rain proof and the lamp is un plugged when the weather doesnt allow it to be on.

Re: Outdoor Window Enclosure

does the sun hit that at all? Cause if it does, your critter is going to get fried and die.

Re: Outdoor Window Enclosure

what are you talking about get fried? does the sun hit what? the cage? of course it does. Its just like a regular outside enclosure but its only a temporary cage. its called their "play" cage

Re: Outdoor Window Enclosure

Is it all screen? That will help a bit, but you need to be sure they can be in the shade if they want to, not all sun. All outdoor enclosures have some shade.

Re: Outdoor Window Enclosure

sorry about the attitude, just got a little defensive. i would never fry my lizards! i love them!

anyways the ceiling in the cage is half malomine, half screen, and it is not furnished yet so i will add a hide in there and a log or two.

Re: Outdoor Window Enclosure

malomine meaning something like hardware cloth? (don't know what malomine is) As long as they have shade to retreat into, sun UVB is great!

I'm a little worried about the screen and if its tear proof enough. Why not the whole thing out of hardware cloth? and then maybe a shade over part of it?

Re: Outdoor Window Enclosure

malomine is like wood but with an incredibly smooth surface. it is used in shelving alot. there is two layers of screen. one is tough metal about 1/8th inch holes and the outer one is smaller holes to prevent any bugs with parasites from flying to their death.

Re: Outdoor Window Enclosure

ok couple of issues. Your melamine is NOT water proof. If water gets to the edges it will soak in and disintegrate. Also 1/8" holes are going to be too small. Thats going to filter out ALL the UVB and it won't benefit your lizards at all... And no need to get defensive, we are all just trying to help...
