And you may find that you have to pay a couple of bucks extra at a glass shop.
But its a lot cheaper than finding that your glass won't fit.

Re: A Few Quick Questions!
Yeah, sorry, i did'nt phrase that right, by glass cutter I meant a professional I could buy a custom piece of glass from.
Thank you all though. On another note I priced wood at home depot today. Im thinking about 3/4" melamine board on the bottom And 3/4" Cabinet grade plywood for the sides, back and top. Its about $85 dollars for the wood. So before I start I really want to check on the price of that glass. I'm tring to keep below $150 dollars for total cost. I Have'nt decide though if it will be one large glass door that drops down, or two doors that slide, i was actualy thinking of closer to 1/2" thick glass though. It kind of depends on the price of the glass, and to have it cut. I'll have to look into that glass shop you mentioned shell.

Re: A Few Quick Questions!
I personally decided to avoid the melamine. Its much heavier than regular wood and if water gets inside it it will come apart. If you want to buy 2 seperate sheets use the cabinet grade for areas that will be visible and use a rougher grade for areas like the bottom that are out of sight.
1/2 glass is going to be extremely heavy!

Re: A Few Quick Questions!
I was originally going to use 1" ply on the bottom, for strength, but the home depot's near me don't stock thicker than 3/4". That is good to know about the melamine, i knew it was heavier, but I did'nt know it couldnt stand up to water that well, i may just go with 3/4" in a cheaper ply for the bottom, thanks.
I know the 1/2" glass will be heavy, i'm just not sure that 1/4" will be strong enough over such a large area, were I to go with sliding doors I would end up using 1/4", for one door i'm just not sure.

Re: A Few Quick Questions!
You can get the 1/4" tempered as well. Costs vary on that as well but you can price it to see. I don't think you'll be able to get 1/2" very easily. Trust me 1/4" is pretty strong. Unless you drop a door and then any thickness will crack anyway.
The 3/4" plywood is incredibly strong. Don't worry about that. We use it to reinforce granite countertops which can weigh over 500 lbs.

Re: A Few Quick Questions!
Merlin is very right about the melamine. I used it for my last frog enclosure because my dad could get it for free and it didn't hold up well at all. It is heavy, difficult to get screws started into, and time consuming to try to seal up the open edges, which still don't make them impervious to water... The 3/4" should be more than strong enough. as should the 1/4" glass especially if you get it tempered.
Oh and Brett just helped me remember the name of the glass place- Beltway Glass and Mirror...

Re: A Few Quick Questions!
Thank you all. Cuts back a bit of the cost not using melamine too, i thought it would of worked better then ply, but if not then I don't see a reason to use it here. I'll have to google the glass place, Beltway Glass and Mirror. Thanks.
