Re: My Attempts At A Foam Wall
well the door built originally made was 44" x 24". i made it out of 1x4 spruce because I read that spruce would stay true better than pine which I made the rest of the enclosure out of. I did notice the door was bowing a little under the heat but I am hoping it is because of the size of the door. hopefully the smaller doors will stay perfectly true but who knows.

Re: My Attempts At A Foam Wall
Well, what's probably happening is the wood is drying out and changing shape. I doubt the spruce was kiln dried, as it rarely is. More than likely all your doors are going to twist and change shape. The pine would have been a better solution if you bought kiln-dried. Any of the wood blanks that you can buy at Rona or Home Depot would be kiln-dried.
I hope it doesn't happen but it probably will.

Re: My Attempts At A Foam Wall
yea I am not sure if it was in fact kiln dried. the spruce was the truest sticks of lumber I could find in rona. I am hoping it twisted because of the door being so large and that the smaller doors will stay a little more true. the origal door did not twist Too bad to where there were any gaps or anythng but when I was closing the door I could definately tell it twisted a little.
the other reason I used the spruce was because the crown was not nearly as large as the pine which made it alot easier to rip down to the desired sizes.
i think I may attemp to make the new doors out of pine as I have about 15 ft extra from the original build.

Isn't pine supposed to be toxic to pets?

Re: My Attempts At A Foam Wall
Not as a construction material.
You have to seal it anyway.

Re: My Attempts At A Foam Wall
unfinished pine is toxic??( i am assumeing the sap in the wood)
well I put 2 coats of minwax waterbased stain and 2 coats of polycrylic clear coat, i hope that will be sufficient.
OK I just put the FINAL touches on the background. I could touch up and add stuff forever if I dont stop myself. i just added some beaked moss to any spots that were annoying me . I am gonna wait til sunday night to put the top on the tank so hopefully everything will be fully cured .
