3 Week Buzz?

I would like to start working on my 75 gallon setup for my whites tree frog, but living in Wisconsin does not easily lend itself to working in a well ventilated area in February. My basement is seriously cold and even more seriously cluttered. Cleaning the basement in the cold is not an option I would like to tackle at this time and after the superbowl party I attended Sunday, watching people walk into walls, stumbling, and falling down..... while is somewhat funny when self induced, is not something I want to subject my family to. Any suggestions?

Re: 3 Week Buzz?

It'll suck some heat out but you can put a fan in a window to draw out the fumes.

Not much else you can do. In order to ventilate you'll need to remove the air in the room.

Re: 3 Week Buzz?

can you close off one room, open the window and shut the door with a fan in the window pushing the air out? that way it doesn't effect the rest of the house. even push a towel under the door crack.

Re: 3 Week Buzz?

Depends on the product and temp of the room. Room temperature and most of the polyurethanes would be cured in 3 days. But it's always safer to wait a week before introducing any herps. Especially frogs.
Using epoxy products. You're looking at 3 weeks.

Re: 3 Week Buzz?

But will the room need to be ventilated for the entire time? I would think that the window would just need to be open long enough for the fumes to dissipate. once it was try they shouldn't be as overwhelming...

That was my thought as well. As long as the product dries for 25 hours, the fumes shouldn't really be that bad and you can open the room back up to the rest of the house. Its only while you are painting and the initial dry do you have to worry about it smelling up the house.

Re: 3 Week Buzz?

I hear ya bro. I had to do the last of the painting of my terrarium inside my room. I got to spend 3 nights sleeping on the couch while constructing the last of it. I just kept the door open and the fan running and let the fumes just disperse into the rest of the house, but that was just with paint. Not sure how silicone and the like will go.
