Re: Dirt setup question

when it was 50 gallons, it sounded like a dart frog tank. Now I'm all confused. Yes, i re-read it too and it seems like there will be a 50 gallon aquarium in there for the water feature. Is this to be a water dragon enclosure?

Re: Dirt setup question

he said the substrate was 20 inches, and didnt say there was a pond in it. maybe it's for an arboreal lizard, like an iguana, but hopefully smaller

Re: Dirt setup question

Whoa, sorry to cause such confusion. The viv itself is 6x6x2. Inside the viv on the left side will be a 50g aquarium. On the right side will be dirt around 20" deep. It's for a Water Dragon, which requires water. The dirt will be held in its own water tight container. As for the fogger, one of the drippers will be supplying it with water so that it is always filled and any overflow will simply pour down into the dirt and eventually get sump-pumped back into the aquarium. The fogger will always have the right height of water in it and it WILL be enclosed so that my lizard cannot get anywhere near the actual water. The fog itself will pour out from holes. Thanks for the heads up on the LECA, I'll check it out.

Re: Dirt setup question

so really, when you add 20 inches of dirt, you now end up with an enclosure that is too small for your lizard. this makes it roughly 6 x 4 x 2. I would perhaps rethink your water supply to something more shallow or not pile the dirt up all the way so there is more space in the tank.

Can water dragons drown? I mean I know they CAN but is a 50 gallon tank too deep?

Re: Dirt setup question

There's still plenty of space for the dragon inside the viv even with the aquarium and the dirt box. They can swim and can be under water for up to 30 minutes at a time. The tank isn't too deep for her, although there will be a basking spot for her in the tank where she can lay on and only be partially submerged.
