New enclosure for Spike
Hi all
I am thinking of building a new enclosure for My Ig(Spike) I am however going to build it in my new office. I have thought about buying a shower and just customizing it.(Quite expensive) Does anyone have any Ideas they would like to share with me? I would like to add a pool to the enclosure that can be drained by pulling the plug! (I want it to be a low maintenance enclosure) I am going to go all out with this enclosure. I have quite a lot of space to work with. What size would you suggest for an adult Ig? Thanks all

Re: New enclosure for Spike
The minimum suggested size for an adult is 6ft tall x 6ft wide by 4ft deep. But bigger is always better if you can swing it. The drain is a great idea. I also prefer to have them completely enclosed except for a few air vents. Makes controlling things much easier.
Check out James Hatfields, Green Iguana, The Ultimate Owners Manual. He has a section in the back on an incredible enclosure. Very high tech if you wish to go that route.

Re: New enclosure for Spike
You said you were willing to go all out. So expensive shouldn't matter--right
If you want it low maintenance. Which really doesn't exist for an Iguana. So we'll say quick maintenance. I think if you go the "customizing a shower stall" route you will end up with an enclosure that's easier to maintain. Try looking at Restores and what not. Stores that sell resell products that have been ripped out of homes.

Re: New enclosure for Spike
I mean expensive in the sense of spending R2000 (R6.50 to $1) for two sides of an enclosure.I could get much more done for this amount, I would gladly spend R10 000 if its nice and practical.
I will be on the lookout for that book Thanks for the input.. ![]()

Re: New enclosure for Spike
Instead of a shower insert, what about building a frame and using tile and grout with a sealer? Sort of make your own shower and that way you can use natural looking tile. You could then add a drain so you could literally hose the whole thing down.
Here are things I'm thinking about for you, only they would have to be more to the size and customization needed for an ig, but you get the idea. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: New enclosure for Spike
This is the type of thing I had in mind but I want to have two solid walls and two glass. thus the reason I thought about a shower first.
I am looking to make it as easy to clean as possible plus it needs to look really great cause I have lots of people walking through my office. I am though thinking of plastering the inside instead of tiles and then using a bonding liquid or something so it cleans easily but looks very natural.

Re: New enclosure for Spike
I'm not sure if you've taken a look at what we built for Gil: Gil's new enclosure (Iguana)
It's a similar premise as a shower stall, but I was able to build it according to how much wall space I have. I'm not sure if you have access to similar materials, but I can send you links to what I used, if you'd like. I spent between $500-$600 USD (about 3,264 - 3,917 ZAR)
