My First Vivarium
I recently got a brown anole and she looks kind of out of place with the fake moss and sticks, so I decided to build her a vivarium. I'm using a tall 20 gallon I got from a neighbor. right now it's in the back yard, i sprayed some foam insulation onto the back wall and am going to paint it grey to look like rock. I'm taking pics so ill post all the steps when it's done!

Re: My First Vivarium
ok, I got it
First I got everything together, rocks, plants, etc I washed out the tank (it was a salvage from my neighbors' old shed) I used a full can of foam insulation and sprayed it in. there was just enough in the can to cover the back of the tank. Let dry about 2 hours just to be sure. you can tell it's dry when it stops feeling springy I Spray painted the foam. It turned out to be a lot shinier than I wanted. I was going for flat grey like cliffs. Let dry and most of the fumes dissipate ![]() I brought the tank inside where it was going to go and put about 2 inches of rock in the bottom for drainage ![]() Put paper towels over the rock to keep the soil from falling in the cracks ![]() Add soil ![]() Add stones for basking spot ![]() Press in moss ![]() Add plants (and a Brown Anole) and you have the finished product. a cookie for anyone who can find my fair Rosamond in this pic! ![]() heres a brighter, if blurrier pic. she's in a different spot in this one, but still visible! ![]() |

Re: My First Vivarium
Job well done. I've never seen paper towels used for that before. I wonder if they would get moldy under there.

i can't tell too much from the photos, but are there sticks and branches in there she could climb up? Its an easy add if there aren't. Otherwise looks good.
