Help with the background
Hi this is my first post, and I have Tokay gecko and I want to move it to a new home, and I wanted to build a background, but I have a few questions about it
what kind of materials needed? Is the styrofoam toxic to geckos? ('cause he bites everything lol ) |

Re: Help with the background
Hello and welcome to the HCN. If you create a styrofoam background and paint a thin layer of mortar on it, it's fine. He won't be able to bite on it or tear it up.

Re: Help with the background
Styrofoam sheeting
expanding can of foam various paints (latex) silicone adhesive(to attach to walls) brushes mortar paint thinner(to brush on foam and to create a smoother look) I think that covers it.

Re: Help with the background
Nope, it will be fine. Just use some silicone adhesive to attach it to the wall. Run a line as well around the edges to seal it in.

Re: Help with the background
Hey!
I wanted to let you know that there is also another way of making a background out of Styrofoam, paint and epoxy resin to make Styrofoam very hard. Materials needed: Sheets of styrofoam (2'' thick) Quickset Mortar (tile adhesive) Paint (Latex colors that you will want your background to look like) Epoxy Resin (West System) Some brushes for Epoxy that you can throw away Latex brushes for paint Exacto knife A torch or something to heat up the knife so you can carve your rocks easily Heat Glue gun or something that you can use to attach the bricks together. Check out what I did with my background here Ig.
