Re: Plans for Construction

I just spent $42 on plexiglass - for ONE of the 3 Unit enclosures.

6 pieces of 18" x 24" - each door will be framed with 2 pieces. The thick stuff that would have made a door all by itself was outrageous!

I am finally on my way...

Early Photos

Pardon the lack of quality - this was taken with my cell phone. I didn't feel like getting the good camera out. Cost is going to be a little more than $150, and I will have costs, better plans, and better pics soon.

I also had to cut 3" off of every board I had cut already. I didn't account for the frame in my measurements. I used 1/4" plywood, so I might be able to use flexwatt.

Well, here you go.

4 feet wide, 2 feet deep, 4 feet high. Each level is about 15" tall.

Only tools I have used are a small miter box, hand saw, drill/driver, tape measure, and pencil. I sure wish I had a nice power saw...

Coming along...

I have changed my mind on the cages around the lights. I just can't find a good way to attach them. I think I will make a frame and have the screen go all the way across, enclosing the light in a "screen room".

Re: Plans for Construction

It will take up a bit more head space. You could put some wooden strips on the walls and then staple or nail the mesh on.

Re: Plans for Construction

I made a mental breakthrough on the light cages!

I am still going to make them, but change my design a bit. My problem was trying to make the hinge where it attaches to the wall. I will now permanently attach it to the wall, and have the top be the hinged piece to change the bulb.

So simple, and yet it just hit me to do it this way. And all this mistake cost me was a few hours time and a $7 roll of hardware cloth.

Aaaahhhh, the things you learn while fabricating things yourself.

Re: Plans for Construction

Sounds like you're having fun. Your garage looks way too empty by the way.

Re: Plans for Construction

It feels cramped and messy to me. I haven't been able to park my Miata in there for a week now.

I am really itching to get this thing done. I am selling my tub rack, so my snakes will go into aquariums until it is finished.

I only have my Black Rat, Sinaloan Milk, and Eastern King. Those are my faves. I still want a Gopher in the future, but if I get one I will just build it's own enclosure and stack it on top of this one.

Heaven knows I have gained enough experiences through my mistakes... None of which I will address now
