I guess what everyone is trying to say is that it's usually cheaper to buy an enclosure than it is to build one yourself. Unless it's of significant size. What access do you have to materials? You can quickly make a 20 gal with some scrap wood panels that are laying around.

Re: building a reptile cage

That's what I was thinking. If you have access to some wood that could be cut into even pieces, it would be pretty easy to put together on four sides. Your fifth side could be plexiglass, which is pretty cheap and easy to get and use. Real glass would be more expensive, but if you're looking to build a quality custom enclosure, you could use that.

If you have a good hardware store nearby, you can take the dimensions of each panel and have them cut wood, plywood or plexiglass to those specifications so that all you have to do is bolt it together. I'm not sure how good plywood is for gecko cages, though.

I agree that it would be easier with that size just to buy a tank or enclosure. There's usually always someone selling a 20 g tank or cage online or in the newspaper for pretty cheap, too.

Re: building a reptile cage

yeah, i will just go buy one. I was looking on craigs list yesturday, and there was nothing for a 20 gallon cage. If any of you find a 20 gal. tank online somewhere and let me know. It has to be around the L.A. area, i would greatly appreciate it.

My other question is, my leo has some type of particle or something around his lip, and I know its not any sand because I saw him sick his lips and it wouldn't come off, so I wasn't sure if that was really bad or if it could be takin care of later until I can get some money to go and check it out.

If your enclosure question is based on reducing costs you could always go with a sterilite tub. You can get them in sizes equivalent to a 20 gallon tanks and it will be considerably cheaper. They come in translucent material which while not as transparent as glass is still pretty "see thru"

Re: building a reptile cage

call around to local owned pets stores and see if they have any used ones for sale. I noticed when I bought crickets last night, they had a few 50 gallon used tanks for $25.
