vivarium
hello all
I need some help with my vivarium. Ok here it is I am trying to seal my vivarium which is has 3 wood sides and the front will be glass. The vivarium is 6 feet high 3 feet wide and 2 feet deep. I am putting a rock wall on the back of the vivarium which I am using thin set for tile and going to airbrush it like a rock mountain, But I need to know what I should use to seal to whole box and if I can use normal door and window silicone? I was told that I should use apoxy resin then seal it after. But I am not to sure what to use. Curtis. |

for sealing, go to an aquarium store and get some aquarium sealent.
For treating the wood, I think you can use any type of water based wood sealent, you just have to be sure to give it ample time to fully dry before putting any critters in there.

Hi Curtis. Can you tell me what is going into the enclosure? Then I can best tell you to what degree you'll need to seal it.

Are you planning to put a water basin in the bottom? Any areas that will have constant water contact I would suggest the use of epoxy such as the West System WEST SYSTEM Epoxy Any other areas should be made of plywood and sealed with a polyurethane lacquer 2 - 3 coats as Liz said a water- based product.

Sealing the viv
Whatever you choose for a sealant, be REALLY careful that it is not toxic and can be used safely. Some epoxy and putty are poisionous when used in a constantly wet environment. Be sure to seal several coats because you do not want the wood to warp. We had a big viv built 3 years ago with a 2 gal. sink in the viv floor that drains from below into a bucket. Our wd spends a lot of time there and can stay in a meditative state for 30 mins underwater. Great for her to soak and shed! Smiley
