Fencing

Ok I was looking for fencing to enclose the Torts and Box Turtle enclosure in the back yard. This will be the outside fence so that the dog will not visit the enclosure (at least I'm hoping he won't, but being a border collie who knows, but at least he won't hurt them). Ok the fence is made out of cedar, what to I have to do to it to make it last outside? Like I said this will be outside fence I will be sinking chicken wire around 1' in the ground and 1' above.

Go to a hardware store and in the paint section will be a section for outdoor wood weatherproofing. Here's some at home depot

As Mike said, there are all sorts of sealers. Have a look and follow the directions they come with.

I would just seal it with Thomsons just because while cedar won't rot easily, it will soak up water like it is going out of style, and may warp and disfigure. They make the water sealer in several different styles, I would get at least a light stain, it keeps the wood from getting mildew and other water marks.

Cedar being a wood, will eventually rot, it just takes a really long time, and some pretty harsh conditions.
