Ideas
Well I have come up with some pretty interesting ideas now just see if they come out the way I think they will.
1) to make some molds using sand of a couple of pieces of wood I found then pour plaster of paris into the mold n let harden and then take the pieces out sand them and paint n seal em with acrylic paint n sealer. 2) make tiles in pretty much the same way and add like hills n plateaus n stuff in them Any other ideas to add to these would be greatly appreciated....

Plaster is cheap and easy to find but is very heavy, chips easily, and is very porus. I would avoid using ture plaster but the mold idea is great.
In highschool my roommmate used bondo to make climbing holds which could work very well but don't know a thing about bondo off gassing. Other plastics may be a better choice. You may also be able to find other two part epoxy type compounds that work well too.

Success
Well this is totally awesome the molds I made yesterday look just like real rock. I will try to get pics ASAP. Im in the process of sealing them now.
Here is how I did it if u want to do the same thing. - Plaster of Paris - Something to mix the plaster (a paint stick is what I used) - Container to mix the plaster in - Playground Sand - A bucket or pan to hold the Playground Sand - Object u want to use to make the impression - Paint Brush - Acrylic Clear Coat Put about 4 or so inches of sand into the bucket. Take your item and slightly embed the it in the sand so it makes an impression of the depth (thickness) you want. After you do this remove the object carefully so u dont mess up the impression. Mix the plaster according to the package instructions. Promptly pour the plaster into the impression and let set according to the instructions (generally around an hour) You can the remove the molds and set them aside to fully cure till the next day. Next day remove the excess sand using the paint brush, then clear coat and your done.

Great ideas!! Can't wait to see pictures! I've also heard that milk (yes, MILK) seals plaster very well, so you might try painting some onto your sculptures before using the acrylic sealant.
MAR, I've found that Bondo stuff a complete disaster! I tried using it, but it gives off massively toxic fumes, it dries up WAY too fast for most projects, and if you don't mix it just right, you've either got a toxic vapor cloud coming out of your mixing can or you have a pile of sticky gunk that will never dry... In short, I don't recommend using it... maybe for VERY small things. It's pretty expensive and doesn't go far.... or not as far as I needed anyway.

Hmm milk huh. I have found some neat ways to use plaster so I think ill stick with that instead of bondo. Yuck toxic clouds n fumes ew.
Only draw back I have found using the sealant is it does give off a deal of fumes so u should wait a few days to let the pieces air out completely before puttin anything into your herps environment.
