would a 30 gallon work for a leo?
hi,
I tried to get a 20 long for my leopard gecko, but the only thing I can get on freecycle is a 30 gallon (may be high). I am worried that is will be too high for him. I wanted extra space for him and I was hoping for a 20L. I have someone who has 9they think) is a 30 with a light and screened lid for me so I CAN"T COMPLAIN! It was used for acouple iguanas...so I guess my question is: would a 10-20 gallon Under Tank Heater still work...with my lighting...and I get an estra light fixture...I am hoping I can get the right temps. I could get a biggeruth and use this one for my crab tank so I guess that would be good. They are just expensive. let me know if I will need a bigger Under Tank Heater for him. Also, I have some driftwood as climbing/hiding decorations...so would that be safe to use for my little gecko. It is from a lake and I washed and baked them. Thanks! |

Teh 30 gl will be fine for the gecko. I would go a size bigger on the Under Tank Heater or you can just use a human heat pad, I use them and many others here do also.
As long as you washed and baked the wood it will work in your tank.

thanks. I would use the human heating pad, but it has auto off and it wouldn't work like the Under Tank Heater. Thanks. I will get the size bigger for him ad I can use the one I have for my crabs! It will work perfectly! Thanks

I hate those auto shut off heat pads! It's getting harder and harder to find the old fire hazard type ones. If I find a place that sells them I might have to buy up the whole lot. It seems like the newer heat pads don't get as hot either. I get really excited when I find heat pads at value village that are green and orange with hippie flowers on them, those are the best!

36x12x16 30 Gallon (432 sq in floor)
20x10x12 10 gallon (200 sq in floor) 36x18x16 40 Breeder (648 sq in floor) (specs taken from all glass Aquariums) a 30 will double your floor space for your Leo, worry not about altitude it makes absolutely no difference to your leo.

thanks guys and gals! the best part is it is free! well, I use to have a hippie orange heat pad but it died recently =( bummer I know...and I couldn't find the old style at this walmart. anyway I wouldn't know where to start by putting the cage on its side. It is a good idea..so I will have to brainstorm =) I guess it depends on the top (or side depending how you look at it

on its side like this, but not like this, the other side. Contact local glass/mirror shop the pieces should cost about 10 bucks.
